Stock market fear and greed index today: the crowd's reading

Stock market Crowd Fear & Greed: 42/100, fear. Week before: 51. A year before: 56. Data as of .

Built from positions, not prices. This is our crowd-based reading, not CNN's or alternative.me's mood-based fear and greed index: the two can disagree.

What it measures

How greedy the crowd's positioning in US stocks is. It uses small traders in E-mini S&P 500, Nasdaq-100 and Russell 2000 futures. It measures positioning only: no prices, volatility, put/call ratios or junk-bond spreads, which is what makes it different from mood-based stock market readings.
