XAUUSD (gold) lot size calculator
Pick Gold (XAU/USD) in the instrument list above. Most brokers make 1 lot of gold 100 troy ounces, and many count a pip as a $0.10 move, so 1 pip on 1 lot is worth $10 and a $1 move in the gold price is worth $100 (judged: broker conventions). Some brokers count a pip as $0.01 instead ($1 a pip on 1 lot): check your platform’s contract specification and change the pip size in the calculator if yours differs.
| Lots | Ounces | 1 pip ($0.10 move) | $1 move in gold |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.01 | 1 | $0.10 | $1 |
| 0.1 | 10 | $1 | $10 |
| 1 | 100 | $10 | $100 |
Worked example (judged): a $10,000 account risking 1% ($100) with a $5 stop on gold. $5 is 50 pips, so one lot would lose 50 × $10 = $500. $100 ÷ $500 = 0.2 lots (20 oz). On a ₹500,000 account in rupees, the same 1% and $5 stop give 0.11 lots at the example rate of ₹88 to the dollar.

| INR (Indian rupee) | ₹500,000 | ₹5,000 | ₹880 | 0.28 |

Lot size or position size calculator?
What is the difference?
This lot size calculator starts from your stop in pips and gives forex or gold lots, plus the units they stand for (100,000 currency units a forex lot, 100 oz a gold lot). The position size calculator starts from a risk % and the entry and stop prices on your chart, and covers shares and futures contracts as well as lots.
Do they give the same answer?
For forex and gold, yes: a 25-pip stop here and an entry and stop 25 pips apart there give the same lots. Pick the one that matches the numbers you have.
What about futures?
Futures trade in contracts, not lots. Use the futures calculator for tick values and contracts.

How it works
- Pip value of 1 lotpip size × contract size. EUR/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10. USD/JPY: ¥1,000. Gold: $10.
- Into your currency× the rate from the pair’s quote currency to your account currency.
- Risk per lotstop in pips × pip value + round-turn costs.
- Lotsrisk budget ÷ risk per lot, rounded down to your broker’s step (0.01 for most forex).
The prop firm rule check
- Max-loss lineStatic: start − max loss. Trailing: highest balance − max loss, capped at any lock.
- Daily roomdaily limit + today’s P&L − risk already open. Firms differ on the base: check yours.
- VerdictFull loss reaches the smaller room = breach. Over half of it = tight (our threshold, judged).
Limits. Stops can slip and gaps can jump them. Contract sizes vary by broker, so check your platform. Many firms count open losses toward the daily limit.
Measured and judged. Firm presets and NSE USD/INR terms are measured (read 14 October 2026, linked). Contract conventions, example rates and every result are judged.
