Privacy
We don't set cookies, and we don't use advertising or tracking scripts.
What we see
- Visit counts. If analytics is switched on, we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without building a profile of you.
- Server logs. Our host, Cloudflare, processes the technical details of each request (such as IP address, browser type and the page asked for) to serve and protect the site. We use these logs for security and to see which search engines visit us.
- Your country. Some pages may only be shown outside the UK. Cloudflare tells our site which country (and, in the US, which state) a request comes from, and we use it only to decide what to show, and to preselect your country in the Prop Firm Finder and the Exchange Availability Checker, which you can change. We don't keep it in any database of our own, except with an email alerts sign-up (below). When a page is withheld, our host's request logs record that it happened (with the country) so we can check the wall works; those logs are covered by the server-logs point above.
- Email. If you email us, we keep your message to reply and to log any correction.
- Your tool settings. Some tools remember choices you make, such as your time zone on the calendar and market clock, or your prop firm on the News-Day Calendar, in your own browser's storage, so they're set when you come back. They stay on your device and are never sent to us. You can clear them in your browser settings; on the News-Day Calendar, the "Forget it" link clears your firm.
Email alerts
- What we store. If you sign up for email alerts: your email address, the lists you picked, the page you signed up from, your country (from Cloudflare), the times you signed up, confirmed your address and last changed your choices, and which version of the sign-up wording you agreed to. To stop abuse we also count sign-ups per connection for two hours, using a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address.
- Where. In Cloudflare's key-value storage (Workers KV), part of the service that runs this site.
- Why. Only to send you the updates you asked for. Our legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. The first email we send is a link to confirm your address; nothing else is sent until you click it.
- How long. Until you unsubscribe. After that we keep your address marked as unsubscribed so we never email you again by mistake. Ask and we'll delete it completely.
- Unsubscribe or delete. Use the one-click link in any alert email, or email hello@tradinglookup.com. To rejoin after unsubscribing, email us at the same address.
Crowd Gauge poll
- What we store. If you answer the daily "long or short?" poll on the Crowd Gauge: only the day's total of long and short answers per market. To allow one answer per market per day, we keep a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address, the market and the date for two days, then it is deleted. We also count answers per connection for two hours to stop abuse, in the same hashed form.
- Where and why. In Cloudflare's key-value storage (Workers KV). The daily totals are published as open data; nothing that could identify you is.
Journalists, researchers and others we contact
We sometimes email journalists, researchers, librarians and people who run data lists, to tell them about our data when it fits something they have published. If you got an email from us, this section explains what we hold and why.
- Who we are. TradingLookup is run by its two founders, Sydney and Alex, who decide how this information is used (in data protection terms, they are the "controller"). Contact: hello@tradinglookup.com.
- What we hold. Your name, your work email address, the organisation you write or work for, your role or subject area, links to the published work that made us think of you, and a record of what we sent you, when, and any reply (including a request not to be contacted).
- Where we got it. From public sources: your byline or author page, your organisation's website or staff page, a published paper, or a public request for sources or data (for example a #journorequest post or a platform query). If you wrote to us first, we got it from you. Ask us and we'll tell you exactly where we found your details.
- Why. To tell you about data that fits your published work, answer your questions, and keep track of who we have contacted so we don't email you too often and never email you after you ask us to stop.
- Legal basis. Legitimate interests: ours in getting our open data used and correctly cited, and yours in having sourced, dated figures on subjects you cover. We only contact you about your field, at most once every 14 days unless you reply, with at most one follow-up. We don't buy lists, mail-merge or track whether you open our emails. We don't email sole traders or freelancers unless they asked for pitches or data, for example in a public request.
- Your right to object. You can tell us to stop at any time: reply "no" to any email, or write to hello@tradinglookup.com. We will stop straight away. We keep only your email address on a do-not-contact list, so that we never contact you again by mistake.
- Who else sees it. Only the two founders and the services we use to do the work: Google (our email), GitHub (where we keep our list of outlets and our draft emails) and Anthropic (whose AI assistant, Claude, helps us find relevant articles and draft emails; a founder reads and sends every email). These companies may process the information in the United States. We don't sell or share it with anyone else.
- How long. Up to two years after our last contact with you, then we delete it. The do-not-contact list is kept for as long as we send emails like this.
- Your rights. You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct it or delete it, or object, at hello@tradinglookup.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint).
- No automated decisions. No decision about you is made by a computer alone.
What we don't do
- No cookies, no ad networks, and no selling your data or sharing it beyond the services named on this page.
