Can you trade the news? Prop firm news rules
We read the rules pages of 33 prop firms. 13 state a news-trading rule; 7 of those restrict trading around high-impact news on at least one account type, usually on funded accounts, with windows of 2 and 5 minutes either side of the release. 20 firms' pages we read don't say.
Check your own plan. Firms change these rules and set them per plan. Read your account's rules before a release.
7 of 13 prop firms that state a news rule restrict trading around high-impact releases on at least one account type, according to TradingLookup's Prop Firm News Rules (October 2026).
Firm by firm
| Firm | Rule | Applies to | Window | What it says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpha Futures | Allowed | Evaluation | No news trading restrictions on evaluation accounts. | |
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | 2 minutes either side | On Zero, Standard and Direct Qualified (funded) accounts no orders may be placed 2 minutes before or after high-impact news (holding through is allowed); Advanced Qualified accounts have no news restriction. | |
| Bulenox | Allowed | All accounts | News trading is allowed with no blackout windows around CPI, FOMC or NFP. | |
| DayTraders.com | Allowed | Evaluation | News trading is allowed on evaluation accounts (the firm warns fills can be poor around news). | |
| Allowed | Funded | News trading is allowed on funded (Pro / S2F) accounts (the firm warns fills can be poor around news). | ||
| Earn2Trade | Allowed | All accounts | The homepage says you can trade through major news events with no restrictions. | |
| Elite Trader Funding | Allowed | Evaluation | News trading is allowed during the End of Day plan evaluation. | |
| Allowed | Funded | The End of Day plan help page says you can trade during news on Elite Sim-Funded accounts; this conflicts with the terms of service which require funded accounts to be flat 5 minutes either side of major news. | ||
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | 5 minutes either side | The terms say funded (Elite) accounts must be flat from 5 minutes before to 5 minutes after listed major news while evaluations are exempt; this conflicts with the End of Day plan help page which says news trading is allowed. | |
| FundedNext Futures | Allowed | Evaluation | News trading is allowed in the Flex challenge; the funded-stage news rule is not shown on the saved page. | |
| Allowed | Evaluation | News trading is allowed in the Rapid Pro and Rapid Daily challenges; the funded-stage news rule is not shown on the saved page. | ||
| FundingPips | Not allowed | All accounts | not stated | The terms say news trading is forbidden and intentional news trading leads to termination; this conflicts with the trading objectives page which allows it in evaluation and sets a 5-minute window on Master accounts. |
| Allowed | Evaluation | The 2 Step Flex evaluation allows news trading; this conflicts with the terms which say news trading is forbidden. | ||
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | 5 minutes either side | On 2 Step Flex Master (funded) accounts no positions may be opened or closed 5 minutes before or after high-impact news on affected currencies and news profits are deducted; this conflicts with the terms which forbid news trading outright. | |
| Maven Trading | Restricted around news | All accounts | 2 minutes either side | The terms say no trades may be opened or closed 2 minutes before or after red-folder news on all accounts (holding is allowed); the FAQ exempts instant accounts and some challenges. |
| Restricted around news | All accounts | 2 minutes either side | The FAQ says challenge and live accounts may not open or close trades 2 minutes either side of red-folder news and instant accounts are exempt; this differs from the terms which apply the rule to all accounts. | |
| Allowed | Evaluation | On the Omo Two Step challenge news trading is unrestricted in both phases; this differs from the 2-minute rule elsewhere. | ||
| Allowed, but news profits may not count | Funded | not stated | On Omo funded accounts news trading is allowed but profit from any single news event is capped at 0.5% of the balance. | |
| MyFundedFutures | Allowed | Evaluation | Tier 1 news trading is allowed in the Rapid evaluation. | |
| Allowed | Evaluation | Tier 1 news trading is allowed in the Pro evaluation. | ||
| Allowed | Funded | On the Builder plan news trading is unrestricted in both the evaluation and sim-funded stages (other plans restrict funded accounts). | ||
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | 2 minutes either side | On Rapid sim-funded accounts Tier 1 news (CPI, NFP, FOMC) is restricted 2 minutes before and after the release; the Rapid evaluation is unrestricted. | |
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | not stated | On Pro sim-funded accounts Tier 1 news trading is not allowed (the page does not state the window length); the Pro evaluation allows it. | |
| Phidias | Allowed | All accounts | News trading is allowed on all account types and at every stage. | |
| Purdia Capital | Allowed | All accounts | The rules page lists news trading as allowed. | |
| Take Profit Trader | Allowed | Evaluation | News trading is allowed in the Test (evaluation) account. | |
| Restricted on funded accounts | Funded | not stated | PRO and PRO+ (funded) accounts may not trade during specific major news events (the window length is not stated on this page); the Test account is unrestricted. | |
| The Trading Pit (futures) | Allowed | All accounts | The futures page lists news trading as allowed; this conflicts with the general terms which ban opening or closing positions 2 minutes either side of high-impact releases. | |
| Restricted around news | All accounts | 2 minutes either side | The general terms ban opening or closing positions 2 minutes before or after high-impact releases; this conflicts with the futures page which lists news trading as allowed. |
