What US GDP is and why it moves markets
The Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates the value of goods and services produced in the US. Each quarter is published three times: an advance, a second and a third estimate.
GDP is the broadest measure of how fast the economy is growing. The advance estimate is the first look at a quarter, so it usually carries the most news. We rate it high impact: central-bank decisions and the main inflation, jobs, GDP and retail data.
