Editorial policy
Our job is to publish numbers people can check. These are the rules we work to.
Sources
- Primary sources firstFirms' own pages and documents, regulators' registers and official texts, public archives such as the Internet Archive.
- Source and date on every numberRead by our script. CFD loss-rate figures also get an independent second automated read; flagged changes wait for a fresh UK read.
- Checks stated, gaps shownEach page says which checks its figures have had, and what isn't checked yet.
- No workaroundsNo getting around bot walls or log-ins, and never anyone else's account or identity.
Example gap. CFD providers' regulators come from our own list and aren't yet checked on the regulators' registers. The page says so.
No false checks. We never say a person re-read a figure unless one did.
What we publish
- Our own dataEvery page needs at least one dated, sourced data point we collected.
- Public methodEvery dataset has a method page with its limits and a changelog.
- No affiliate links on data pagesSee how we make money.
- Not investment adviceAnd data pages never tell readers to open accounts.
How we word things
- Factual, not rhetoricalWhat a source says, and when.
- AttributedEvery claim about a named firm names its source.
- No labels we can't supportNever "scam" or "fraud" in our own words: only inside a word-for-word quote from a court finding or a regulator's published warning, with the source linked.
- No guessing at motivesWe give a firm's reasons only when the firm or a regulator has stated them.
- Disputed wording is quotedWhere a firm may dispute a status, we quote the source exactly.
- Unknowns statedIf we don't know, we say so.
Conflicts of interest
Declared. Alex, our editor, works on affiliate programmes in trading categories. That's why data pages carry no affiliate links and firms can't pay to change data, scores or rankings.
Corrections
Got something wrong? We fix it and say so.
- Email usThe page, what's wrong and your evidence, to hello@tradinglookup.com.
- Logged in publicChanged figures and material facts go on the corrections page: date, what changed, why.
- Dataset changelogDataset changes go there too.
Right of reply
Any firm we name can reply.
- Write from the firm's domainEmail from the firm's own domain, with evidence.
- Proved wrong: correctedIf the firm shows our figure is wrong, we correct it.
- Disputed but sourced: keptIf the figure matches what the firm's own page said, it stays, and we can add the firm's response.
No removal on request. Accurate, sourced data stays. If we ever remove an entry, the site says so, and why.
Updates
Each data page shows when its data was last read, taken from the data itself, not the rebuild date.
