How: Built only from our two datasets: each US platform's own availability, help or licence pages (read by our script on 13 October 2026) and the FCA's register and Warning List pages for the UK (read 13 October 2026). Every answer shows the quote and page it rests on. How we check How we make money Corrections

Pick an exchange and a place to see what its own pages, or the FCA register, said on the day we read them. In the US, 7 of the 15 platforms we read say which states they serve, and New York is the state they most often leave out (5 of 7). In the UK, 24 of the 38 platforms we track are on the FCA's cryptoasset register.

"Not stated": no state-by-state statement on the pages we read. We never fill a state from a licence list. A per-exchange page needs the platform's own words for at least 26 of the 50 states and DC.

Crypto exchanges available in New York

New York requires its own licence for virtual currency business (the "BitLicense"). It is the state these platforms most often leave out. On 13 October 2026:

Why New York? It requires its own licence for virtual currency business (the "BitLicense"), one reason platforms leave it out. Their own reasons aren't given on the pages we read.

On 13 October 2026 we read the US availability pages of 15 crypto exchanges and apps. 7 say in their own words which states they serve. For the other 8, including Coinbase, Gemini and PayPal (crypto), the pages we could read gave no state-by-state statement.

Available UK: On the FCA register: US: the platform's own page says it serves the state, by name or by its own wording (for example, "every state except…"). UK: a company in the group is on the FCA's cryptoasset register.
