Why
New Year's Eve isn't an NYSE holiday and the exchange lists no early close for it, so stocks trade normal hours.
New Year's Eve is a normal trading day for stocks. When New Year's Day falls on a Saturday the NYSE does not move it to the Friday: its holiday page says no New Year's Day holiday is observed in 2028.
Does New Year's Eve count as a trading day at your prop firm?
None of the quotes in our futures prop ledger (24 firms) say whether a market holiday or an early close counts towards a minimum-trading-days rule. New Year's Eve is a normal session for US stocks, but futures can keep different hours, so check your firm's notice. What firms' own pages do say:
- Bulenox lists no minimum number of trading days on its evaluation plans: "Min. trading days None" (bulenox.com, read 16 October 2026)
- The Trading Pit (futures) counts profitable days towards payouts: "To request a reward, you must complete 5 profitable trading days with at least $150 profit per day, which do not need to be consecutive" (thetradingpit.com, read 16 October 2026)
- Alpha Futures counts profitable days towards payouts: "Request every 5 winning trading days of $200 profit, or more" (help.alpha-futures.com, read 16 October 2026)
- Elite Trader Funding says you can trade on holidays: "Q: Can I trade on holidays and during news? Yes" (elitetraderfunding.app, read 13 October 2026)
Check your firm's holiday notice before you trade or count the day. Every firm's published rules: US futures prop firms and prop firm news rules.
